The tip
We
spent today in Skagen. This is the most northern city in Denmark. Here there is
access to the branch, or the peninsula that sticks out of the top of Denmark,
the tip... The first thing we did in Skagen was going to see the covered
church. (waddya-know, another church!) To understand this church, you need to
understand something about Skagen. It was once covered in sand dunes, and those
dunes moved, they sometimes covered roads, so the state (called kommune)
planted a bunch of trees on most of the dunes, so it doesn't move anymore. The
problem is that there was a sole brown church far from the dunes. Problem is
that they moved and covered the church, the church was destroyed, but the tower
survived and was painted white. Then the plants were planted, so the tower sits
on a dune that will not move anymore. That was crazy cool. Then we went and stood
on the tip of Denmark. The branch. Here two oceans meet here, and you can see
the waves crashing against each other. This is because of the opposite forces
in the oceans. That was also super cool. Then we went to a museum that held
some paintings. Apparently, a group of painters lived in Skagen because of the
"inspirational" light that only Skagen has. Kinda weird stuff... The
paintings were cool and it was practically a mini Danish Renascence period
because the painting weren't just pretty Christian scenes, but picture of life.
Like this one: one:
(Yes that is a person, the tradition is on Saint Hans day, a witch is burned.....) So, we then left there, and went to one of the only places with out stuff planted on the dune. This dune travels east by like 20 meters a year. Pretty fast stuff.
