Skt. (St.) Hans Day

I made the life saving decision yesterday. I decided that since it was 2AM, I would not write about the day then, but tomorrow at some reasonable time. That time is now. Yesterday was a fine day, minus the beginning. It started around 6AM where we had to drop my dad of at Kastrup airport, because he is going home. After that, we went back to our apartment, and fell asleep for another two hours. That felt good. Then we went shopping, we didn't do much until 4PM, but that was good because we were all tired. We went and say my grandmothers grave, and the church my mom was baptized in, and confirmed in. That was a lot of fun. We then went to my grandparents. We had forgotten some stuff, so we had to pick it up. Then we went to Skt. Hans party near the tip of Shetland.
Danish tradition has it that June 23 is St. Hans Eve. Gathering all your friends, and all their wine, and getting drunk and dancing, and stuff celebrated this occasion. Along with that, they would light bonfires all along the coast. In old day each bonfire would be accompanied with witch. This was to cleanse the community. Midsummer eve is the longest day of the year. In many religions this is noticed. In Egyptian mythology, good is especially powerful, and magic works especially well. This is the Danish theory as well. The spent the night burning witches, which was supposed to symbolize sending the witch to Bloksbjerg. Bloksbjerg is a "mountain" in the Harz Range in Germany with an elevation of an outstanding 1,141 meters!!! Now the witch is no longer flesh and bone, but rather wood and cloth and stuff. Anyways. I went to a St. Hans party, and felt totally out of place. Therefore I looked at the hosts many bookshelves. I found a book called Helix and started readings. I didn't get very far into it. The host thought otherwise. He gave me the book. That made me so happy! Also, the host's wife is crazy about Lego; she likes building Lego, and then breaking and sorting Lego creations. I used some of her Legos to build a pretty cool airplane. We ate dinner with them, and then went to set a fire. They started the fire, but it didn't work. The pile (1.5 times my height) was very wet, and didn't light the way it should have. They tried and tried, and the little witch a little girl made fell and was anti-climactic burned, because it was the only dry thing. In the end the dumped 7 liters of gasoline of the fire, which finally lit it. It was very special to be where we were. By walking out a little closer to the water, I could see all the fires all along the coast. This was very cool. Then we drove home.
