Today I
was in Odense. In Odense I saw H.C. Andersen's birthplace. Here they have built
a museum around the existing house, with all his work. I therefore got to see a
page from the original Little Mermaid, and the Ugly Ducking in the author’s
handwriting. Pretty cool stuff! Then I went and ate a hot dog, which
I liked,
even though I hate hot dogs in America (especially because they aren't meat,
but rather everything you can't eat from a pig...) I then went to Odense
Domkirke (Aka St. Knuds Domkirke (if you read yesterday post, you will know
what Domkrike means....if you don't BAD READING, and get over to that post and
read.)) This was pretty cool. It has one of the prettiest and biggest altarpieces
in Denmark. It was much newer then Ribe, and was built in 1247. It was an
interesting story. The king of Denmark (at the time "Knud") was
praying in the old wooden domkirke. He was praying for good outcomes in the war
that was coming, meanwhile the peasants who he had lined up for battle came in
and killed him his brother and all 10 of his personal soldiers. He was buried
on the spot. When the newest domkirke was built his bones were pulled up and
put on display. His bones weren't pretty, and I don't like staring at human
remains. GROSS. Apparently miracles happen in front of his bones, but I'd
rather hide then wait for my to be blessed. :P
