Ribe

Ribe is the oldest town is Denmark. It has is heritage site. It was founded in 825 AD.  This is older than United States, and many of the things in the US. We went to see the biggest cathedral in Denmark. "Ribe Domkirke" (meaning cathedral...) is a stone structure that replaced the original wood church. The stone church is dated back to somewhere between 1110 and 1134 AD. The church is huge. My mom was able to convenience the organist to let my brother play it. Because the church is so old it doesn’t have a piano, but rather 2 organs (one bigger with more the 3000 pipes and a smaller one with only like 10 pipes…) my brother played, and it sounded truly good. This church was very cool. It was huge. We also went up to the tower, just as the bell rang . From the top of the tower, we could see all of Ribe. The tower is the tallest point in the city (like in Santa Fe, only Santa Fe is about 6 times shorter, and smaller). There were also some caskets in the church; they were open, but long empty. They were stone and from before the stone church was built. They were pretty cool. After this we walked around in the inner city, and stared at some cool things.
There was a queen of Denmark called Queen Dagmar. She was fabled to be the prettiest women in the world and super kind to her slaves, she lived in Ribe after getting married to the king, and then died. She was fake buried in Ribe and then re-buried in Ringsted. Ribe also held her castle called Ribehus slot. It was an awesome castle. No one knows when it was destroyed, but it no longer stands. There is still part of the ruins though. The things that still stand are the foundation, the moat, a pillar, a cellar and a jail. Recently, a statue of Dagmar sits on the ruins (which you can get to my walking on a bridge.) It’s a pretty boring castle, just because it is in ruins.
